Who do you trust on the Internet, and how do others gain your trust? Two questions that are not easy to answer. The possible answers are far too complex and varied: Is it the good feeling of buying from an online retailer who doesn’t rip you off on price and offers good customer service, or is it the data you entrust to this retailer?

05.04.2022|last modified:26.10.2022

Ultimately, we hope rather than know on the Internet: How our personal, sensitive information is handled and what paths this data takes through the Internet has become unmanageable. Nevertheless, we always hope that our own data is stored, processed and transmitted securely.

Confidentiality in business communication

Especially at a time when the amount of processed data is growing exponentially and sensitive data is managed by countless apps, many decry a lack of data protection and security. And because email is an integral part of business communications, email encryption or sender reputation checks are fundamental mechanisms for protecting against phishing, malware, spam, and other Internet threats.

The use of a suitable secure email gateway is therefore the basic prerequisite for confidential and secure electronic communication. Especially if you can trust the software, its origin as well as the technology used. But how can you as a customer or user be sure that you can? Well – in this case, it’s quite simple.

What does the IT Security made in Germany seal stand for?

The IT Security made in Germany seal expresses exactly that: It is a seal of trust based on the initiative of the same name by the IT Security Association Germany (TeleTrust), the largest competence network for IT security in Germany.

It stands for reliability and confidentiality of security solutions, and bearing the seal is tied to five criteria:

  • The company headquarters must be in Germany.

  • The company must offer trustworthy IT security solutions.

  • The offered products must not contain hidden accesses (no "backdoors").

  • The company’s IT security research and development must take place in Germany.

  • The company must undertake to comply with the requirements of German data protection law.

Who awards the IT Security made in Germany seal?

The initiative “IT Security made in Germany” (ITSMIG) was founded in 2005 by German IT security companies and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and later transferred to the sponsorship of TeleTrusT. Since then, the “ITSMIG” working group has been active under the umbrella of TeleTrusT.

The goal of the initiative is to work together despite all the competition and to jointly make an important contribution to greater trustworthiness and information security: German data protection law is internationally regarded as one of the strictest. The fact that the award-winning products may not have backdoors means that the product may not contain any hidden access points for third parties (e.g. intelligence services) – a quality feature that is recognized worldwide.

IT Security made in Germany also signifies trustworthy email software.

Secure software developed in Germany bears the IT Security made in Germany seal because it meets the strict requirements attached to the seal. This addresses all those who want to secure their IT infrastructures and their e-mail communications in the best possible way.

Software developed in Germany offers not only reliable protection against threats from the Internet, but above all stable technology that is constantly being further developed on the basis of strict German security standards. Guaranteed without backdoors and dependencies on other companies.

A decision for your security

The trust mark IT Security made in Germany is highly valued in business and society and is an important decision-making aid for administrations and companies looking for a competent IT security partner.

With products that bear the seal, you are making a decision for reliability and confidentiality – and thus also for the security of your IT infrastructures.
