NTLM Replaced by Basic Authentication
With NoSpamProxy Server 16.1, the previous NTLM-based authentication between central components has been replaced by Basic Authentication. This change is driven by Microsoft’s restrictions and hardening measures related to NTLM, which have already caused login issues in customer environments. This change particularly affects the Identity Service, the Web App, the NoSpamProxy Command Center, PowerShell, and communication between various NoSpamProxy components.
For administrators, this primarily means:
- less reliance on NTLM
- greater stability following Windows security updates
- lower risk of login issues due to operating system changes
- better future-proofing for existing installations
- Improved stability for authentication and management
Please note that existing scripts that use NTLM will no longer work with NoSpamProxy Server 16.1 and must be updated before upgrading to version 16.1. The scripts in our GitHub repository have already been updated and support Basic Authentication.
Other Important Improvements
In addition to the changes to authentication and the web portal, NoSpamProxy Server 16.1 includes numerous improvements in the areas of security, stability, and operation. At the same time, various performance issues have been resolved, including through optimizations to database queries and resource-intensive processing tasks.
The installation and update processes for NoSpamProxy have also been further improved. In addition, this version includes numerous bug fixes across various product areas; these corrections help to further enhance stability and reliability in daily operations.
